In 1999 the republicans sponsored a bill, that was backed by McCain, called The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act that removed depression era safeguards from reckless capitalists.  Biden opposed it, McCain didn’t.  The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act has been widely ackowledged amongst economists as the leading contributor to the exploitation of unstable Sub-Prime markets which has led to our utter ruination.
